Summer 2015

Summer, 2015

Pre-registration and a $25 non-refundable deposit (unless a class is canceled) are required for all classes.  We do have a class size requirement – Minimum 2 and Maximum 6.  Please sign up for class at least 48 hours in advance so we will know if we need to be ready to go!  Remember, participants receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for each class.

Every Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 a group of us get together to challenge ourselves and each other to learn new techniques and complete some fun projects.  If there are two people who want to meet and Lil is available, we get together to test our skill at different things.  We’ve done socks, the Snow Ghost hat that is for sale in the store, Fair Isle Christmas Stockings and the Houndstooth Scarf posted on Facebook.  Who knows what we may decide to do next!

There is no rule that says everyone makes the same thing so you are welcome to choose something different.  Perhaps you would  like to do a Knit in the Row Below project or a Top Down sweater.  You are welcome to come and we will help you out.  The cost is $10 each week, but, like all our classes, you get a 10% discount on materials.

If the times of our classes don’t fit you schedule, or if you are hoping to learn something not listed here, call the store and we will see what we can arrange.  Charge for this is $25.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each hour after that.

Our Learn to Knit classes have created some great knitters!  The scarves, hats, car seat blankets, dishcloths they have made have made us proud.  Sign up now and you can join their ranks!  In two lessons of two hours each you will learn the basics: cast on, knit, purl and bind off.  We supply the materials to get you started on those steps and in week two you will be ready to choose a pattern, needles and yarn for your first project.  (Remember there is a 10% discount for all items purchased for classes.)  Ongoing help is always available when the store is open.

Sundays - 1:00 to 3:00 PM

June 7 & 14

July 12 7 19

August 2 & 9

$50.00 plus materials for a two week session

$10.00 to come back for a second session

All patterns can be found on  If you’d like to get them in advance you learn about needle size in case you have the right ones and can bring them to class with you.  We will have the pattern available when you arrive at any rate.

The pattern includes directions for 3 different weights of yarn and provides basic instruction for making socks using Lil’s favorite knitting technique.  We have some terrific sock yarn that will provide a pattern similar to this one.  To learn and practice the basic sock construction takes three weeks with homework in between so be ready to get those needles clicking!

June 16, 23 & 30 – 2:-00-4:00

$65.00 for the three classes

Check out the pattern on Ravelry and you will see that this is just as cute for a little girl.  The directions are written for kids from 3 months to 8 years so it’s a quick, in the round with no seams, it’s a quick knit for any young one on your list.

June 28 – 1:00-3:00

$25.00 for the one class

It’s never too early to start your Christmas knitting – especially if you want one of these for everyone in the family!  The Tuesday night group made scores of these last year, many of which can be seen in the Knook’s Facebook photo album.  It’s a fun way to learn the Fair Isle technique and a lot about sock construction.  Participants all purchase 3 skeins of Cascade worsted weight yarn and then we share all the different color

July 7 & 14 – 2:00 – 4:00

$50.00 for the two classes

Lace work and sewing seams provide a combination of skills that may be new or just needing of practice.  While we realize you won’t do all this in one class or maybe even two classes, we promise to see you through to completion however long it takes!

July 21 & Aug 4 – 2:00 – 4:00

$50.00 for the two classes

If mitts aren’t your thing, you might prefer a unique scarf that will provide that practice on the cables.  I am always annoyed with scarves that have a wrong and a right side, so this one was appealing to me.

July 26 – 1:00 – 3:00

$25.00 for the one class

Hand warmers are so functional and popular with those who test.  You can learn and/or practice your “cabling” skill as you create the perfect Christmas gift for the young woman on your list!

July 28 – 2:00-4:00

$25.00 for the one class

August is All About Hats!

The design is simple but also very popular.  This would seem to be an easy project for those wishing to master the skill of knitting in the round.

Aug 11 - 2:00 - 4:00

$25.00 for the one class

This hat has a unique trim on the bottom and provides practice reading charts and doing color work.

Aug 16 – 1:00 – 3:00 & Aug 18 – 2:00 – 4:00

$50.00 for the two classes

Knit with a smaller needle in Cascade wool, this should be an extra warm hat.  Can’t wait to start it!
